Welcome to Duquesne's Department
of Theology! We offer undergraduate, master's
and doctoral programs in theology, as well as
graduate
programs in pastoral ministry and religious
education.
A Catholic university offers
a unique opportunity for religious faith and contemporary
culture to enter into conversation. Catholic theology
has been pursuing difficult questions for nearly
twenty centuries and has acquired much wisdom
about what resources are dependable, what answers
are too easy, what questions need to be addressed.
It is a living discipline rooted in the life of
the church and one which brings new insights as
well as old. In our Department of Theology, the
conversation between faith and culture becomes
intellectually alive as students and teachers
engage scripture, tradition, experience, and contemporary
thought in search of understanding.
Undergraduate students in Core
Theology get a taste of that search and its methods.
If an undergraduate student wishes, he or she
can go deeper in a Major or a Minor in Theology.
Our master's and doctoral programs
help to form religious educators, pastoral ministers,
teachers, and writers. Students from many different
churches and parts of the world come here to study
theology, knowing that their own search will benefit
from the riches of Catholic theology and rigorous
critical inquiry in a setting where we understand
that religious questions are real and important,
both for you and for the world.
